In November 2018, the new QINGDAO AIRPORT will be named "QINGDAO JIAODONG AIRPORT" and will be officially named QINGDAO JIAODONG international AIRPORT after the completion and acceptance of the port. The English name will be "QINGDAO JIAODONG AIRPORT".

According to the overall work plan, Qingdao jiaodong international airport will be built in 2015, with a total construction period of four years. It is expected to be completed and accepted in 2019.

This project aiming at 2025 years, a total investment of about 38.175 billion yuan, including 30.045 billion yuan in the airport project, the construction of two parallel is far away from the runway, the runway length 3600 meters, 2200 meters of track spacing, terminal building area of 450000 square meters, construction period is about 4 years, after the completion of can satisfy the passenger throughput of 35 million passengers, and throughput of 500000 tons of aircraft take-off and landing vehicles 30 security requirements. Air traffic control project, oil supply project, China Eastern airlines base project and shanhang base project are respectively invested by their respective owners, totaling 8.13 billion yuan. With 2045 as the target year, it is planned to build two more short-distance runways with the length of 3,200 meters and the terminal area of 700,000 square meters, which can meet the annual passenger throughput of 55 million person-times, terminal throughput of 60 million person-times, cargo throughput of 1 million tons and aircraft take-off and landing of 450,000 flights.
